TISSUE

by Katrin Hahner

Katrin Hahners Composition „Tissue“ is based on a recording of rubbing sea ice in the Polar Sea. The phenomenon of singing ice inspired the sonic artist to adress the ice as a living layer of tissue that communicates with its surroundings in various ways through time and space.

Polar Sounds is a unique project reimagining some of the little-heard sounds of the Arctic and Antarctic regions, reflecting on climate change and the evolving sounds of the polar seascapes.

„Tissue" as part of „Polar Sounds“ is a collaboration between Cities And Memory, the Ocean Acoustic Research Group of the The Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI) and the Helmholtz Institute for Functional Marine Biodiversity (HIFMB) situated in Germany.
